Information

This pair of wall lamps, model S-1987, was designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1960s. The lamps feature a refined composition of brass and opaline glass, showcasing Jakobsson’s talent for balancing geometric simplicity with atmospheric lighting. Each lamp is mounted on a circular brass wall plate, with a slim arm supporting the cylindrical brass holder. The holder is perforated with a series of small round openings that add a decorative detail and allow light to escape laterally. The tall, conical opaline glass shade is softly tapered, diffusing the light evenly and giving the lamp its sculptural presence.

The brass surfaces display a warm patina that highlights the age and authenticity of the pieces, while the opaline glass remains in very good condition, with a smooth, satin-like surface that creates a pleasant glow when illuminated. The lamps are in good vintage condition, with minor traces of wear consistent with careful use over several decades.

Hans-Agne Jakobsson (1919–2009) was a leading figure in Scandinavian lighting design, known for his dedication to creating lamps that softened and diffused light to create warm and intimate interiors. Establishing his company in Markaryd in the early 1950s, Jakobsson designed a wide range of lighting objects, from chandeliers to sconces, often experimenting with materials such as brass, glass, and wood. His work is characterized by a focus on atmosphere, and these lamps are a fine example of his skill in combining function with sculptural elegance.

Stylistically, the lamps represent the Scandinavian mid-century approach, with their clean lines, minimalistic form, and emphasis on material quality. They are well-suited for hallways, living spaces, or bedrooms where a vertical accent and softly diffused light are desired.

Dimensions are 8 cm wide, 15.5 cm deep, and 33 cm high, corresponding to approximately 3.1 x 6.1 x 13 inches.
