Hans-Agne Jakobsson wall lamps
Rare pair of wall lamps model V-287, designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson and produced by Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden during the 1950s. This sculptural lighting model is a striking example of Jakobsson’s refined approach to modern Scandinavian design, combining geometric simplicity with warm materials and atmospheric illumination. The composition of spherical glass shades and polished brass elements creates a distinctive balance between elegance and playfulness, making the model one of the designer’s most visually compelling wall-mounted lighting designs.
Each lamp features five hand-blown glass globes arranged around a central vertical structure, creating a carefully balanced architectural composition. The softly tinted glass shades are paired with brass fittings and slender brass arms, producing a harmonious contrast between transparency and metallic surfaces. The symmetrical arrangement gives the lamp a strong sculptural presence even when unlit, while maintaining the lightness and sophistication characteristic of Scandinavian modernism. Each lamp is fitted with five E14 sockets.
Hans-Agne Jakobsson was renowned for his ability to create lighting that softened and enhanced the atmosphere of a room rather than merely illuminating it. In this model, the smoked amber-toned glass globes diffuse the light while simultaneously revealing the decorative filament bulbs within. When illuminated, the globes emit a warm amber glow that reflects through the glass and brass surfaces, creating a rich interplay of light, shadow, and reflection. The resulting ambiance is intimate and inviting, making the lamps equally suitable for living spaces, bedrooms, hallways, or hospitality interiors.
Founded in Markaryd in southern Sweden, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB became internationally recognized for producing some of the most innovative Scandinavian lighting of the mid-century period. Jakobsson’s designs often explored the relationship between light diffusion and materiality, and his work remains highly sought after by collectors and interior designers worldwide. The V-287 model demonstrates his mastery of form and proportion, while anticipating the space-age aesthetics that would emerge more prominently during the following decade.
The lamps are executed in brass with original glass shades and retain a beautiful age-related patina throughout the metal surfaces. They remain in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear and use consistent with age. The glass shades are well preserved, and the overall presentation is excellent.
