Hans Bergström wall lamps
This rare pair of wall lamps was designed by Hans Bergström and produced by Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus, Sweden during the 1950s. The lamps are executed entirely in brass and feature a sculptural, asymmetrical shade that flares outward in a dynamic, angular form. The conical body transitions into a sharply extended lip, creating a directional and visually striking silhouette.
The brass surface has developed a natural patina over time, with visible variations and darker speckling that emphasize the material’s age and authenticity. The wall mount is circular and connected to the shade by a straight cylindrical arm, maintaining a clear and functional construction. The interior of the shade is shaped to direct light both downward and outward, reflecting Bergström’s interest in controlled yet atmospheric illumination.
Hans Bergström founded Ateljé Lyktan in 1934 and was a central figure in Swedish lighting design during the mid-20th century. His work often combined modernist clarity with expressive forms, experimenting with geometry and material to create sculptural lighting objects. Ateljé Lyktan became one of Sweden’s leading lighting manufacturers, known for collaborations with prominent designers and for producing technically advanced fixtures with strong aesthetic identity.
The lamps are in good vintage condition with signs of use and patina consistent with age. The wear enhances the character of the brass and reinforces the historical presence of the pair.
