Information

This freestanding desk, model AT-325, was designed in 1961 by Hans J. Wegner and produced by the Danish manufacturer Andreas Tuck. It represents a striking balance between Scandinavian craftsmanship and modernist principles, combining natural materials with industrial elements in a refined and functional composition.

The desk is executed in richly grained rosewood, chosen for its depth of color and distinctive patterns, which lend a strong sense of individuality to each piece. The rectangular tabletop is supported by chromed steel legs, their linear geometry and precision contrasting with the organic qualities of the wood. The construction highlights Wegner’s ability to merge structural clarity with tactile elegance. Two drawers are integrated beneath the tabletop, framed in rosewood with visible locks, providing functional storage without disrupting the visual lightness of the piece.

Hans Wegner, one of the most influential figures of Danish modern design, is best known for his chair designs, yet his desks and tables embody the same values of proportion, honesty in materials, and enduring utility. Produced by Andreas Tuck, a workshop celebrated for its close collaboration with Wegner, the desk exemplifies the high standards of mid-20th century Danish cabinetmaking, where attention to detail and integrity of execution were paramount.

The condition is good vintage, with small signs of usage and a light patina consistent with age, which reinforces the authenticity and history of the desk. As a freestanding piece, it was intended to be placed centrally in a room, allowing the design to be appreciated from all angles, a concept aligned with Scandinavian modernism’s emphasis on furniture as spatial architecture.
