Hans Wegner dining table
This is a rare dining table, model AT-304, designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Hans J. Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark during the 1950s. The table is constructed primarily from teak for the tabletop with oak structural elements and brass hardware used in the support mechanisms. The design is defined by its graceful folding leaves and sculptural base, exemplifying Wegner’s blend of engineering logic and visual lightness.
The rectangular table features two drop leaves that expand its width from 132 cm to a full 238 cm when extended. The hinged leaves are supported by brass tension arms that connect to the legs in a triangular configuration, creating a lightweight yet stable support structure. The base is formed of x-shaped interlocking legs in oak, which are finely shaped and meet with clean brass pins at the pivot points. The tabletop is framed in teak with a refined, slightly beveled edge that subtly softens the form. The grain of the teak is straight and warm in tone, displaying well-defined figuring across its surface.
Hans J. Wegner, a leading figure in Danish Modernism, was known for designing furniture that emphasized simplicity, craftsmanship, and harmony between form and function. The AT-304 is representative of Wegner’s work with Andreas Tuck, a manufacturer respected for its precise execution and high-quality materials. This table design is notable for its versatility, ease of transformation, and elegant proportions, allowing it to function both as a compact table and as a full dining table when extended.
The table is in good vintage condition, with small signs of use consistent with its age. The wood has been carefully restored and shows a consistent finish across all surfaces, while the hardware is fully operational.
Dimensions are 132 cm wide when closed and 238 cm wide when fully extended. The depth is 86 cm and the height is 71.5 cm. In imperial units, this translates to approximately 52 inches (extended to 93.7 inches) in width, 33.9 inches in depth, and 28.1 inches in height. This piece is a refined example of Scandinavian mid-century design, balancing precision joinery with sculptural fluidity.
