Information

This rare and expansive dining table, model JH-567, was designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1952 and produced by master cabinetmaker Johannes Hansen in Copenhagen, Denmark. Crafted in solid teak, the table exhibits the refined material sensibility and meticulous woodworking that are hallmarks of Wegner’s early collaborations with Hansen. The design reflects an organic modernism with architectural clarity, combining functional ingenuity with sculptural subtlety.

The table is constructed from richly grained teak, displaying a deep amber hue with pronounced linear and radial patterns across its top. The tabletop has an oval form when fully extended and rests on elegantly tapered cylindrical legs. The underframe features carefully executed joinery with visible dowel and wedge details, particularly characteristic of Hansen’s workshop and indicative of superior cabinetmaking traditions. The extension mechanism is integrated with technical precision and includes several leaf inserts, expanding the table to accommodate larger gatherings without compromising aesthetic continuity.

Hans J. Wegner, one of Denmark’s most influential designers, was renowned for his commitment to craftsmanship and his deep respect for wood as a living material. His work with Johannes Hansen, a cabinetmaker who championed innovation and perfection, laid the foundation for many of Wegner’s early masterpieces. The JH-567 dining table is a prime example of their collaborative excellence, merging functional innovation with timeless Scandinavian elegance.

This example is preserved in good vintage condition with light patina and minor signs of wear consistent with age and careful domestic use. The finish remains rich and intact, with a warm, even tone across the surfaces. The structure is stable and retains all its original parts.
