Hans Wegner dining table
This is a model AT-312 dining table designed by Hans J. Wegner in the 1950s and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark. The table features a rectangular teak top with a warm golden-brown tone and a fine, straight grain pattern, paired with solid oak legs that taper elegantly towards the floor. The top is framed with subtly rounded edges, and the proportions are carefully balanced to create a harmonious form. It includes two integrated extension leaves at each end, allowing the length to expand significantly for additional seating. The leaves slide smoothly from beneath the top, demonstrating Wegner’s emphasis on practical, human-centered design.
The table is in good vintage condition, having been restored while preserving signs of usage and patina that highlight its age and authenticity. The teak surface shows a consistent coloration, and the oak legs retain their natural warmth, with minor wear consistent with decades of use. The extending mechanism is functional and stable, ensuring ease of operation.
Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) is widely regarded as one of the foremost figures in Danish modern design, celebrated for his ability to combine functionality, comfort, and timeless elegance. Trained as a cabinetmaker before studying at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts, Wegner brought a deep understanding of woodworking techniques to his furniture designs. His collaborations with Andreas Tuck resulted in a number of now-iconic tables, characterized by fine craftsmanship and attention to proportion. Andreas Tuck was a Danish furniture manufacturer known for producing high-quality modernist furniture, often working with leading designers of the mid-century era.
Stylistically, the AT-312 embodies the essence of mid-century Scandinavian design: simplicity, natural materials, and refined craftsmanship. The pairing of teak and oak, combined with the slender, slightly splayed legs, gives the table a light and modern presence, while its functional extension system reflects the practical needs of postwar interiors.
