Information

This rare easy chair, model CH-25, was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Carl Hansen & Søn in Denmark during the 1950s. It is one of the most iconic examples of mid-century Scandinavian furniture design, showcasing Wegner’s masterful balance of functionalism, craftsmanship, and organic form.

The chair features a solid oak frame with gently tapered legs and sculptural armrests, embodying the natural warmth and tactile quality characteristic of Danish modern design. The seat and backrest are handwoven from durable paper cord, a material that became a hallmark of Wegner’s work for its strength, comfort, and refined texture. The weave’s tight, precise pattern not only provides ergonomic support but also adds a subtle decorative quality to the chair’s overall appearance.

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) was one of the most influential furniture designers of the 20th century, often referred to as the “Master of the Chair” for his groundbreaking work in redefining seating design. His collaboration with Carl Hansen & Søn produced some of the most enduring icons of Scandinavian modernism, including the CH-24 “Wishbone Chair” and the CH-25, which was one of his earliest designs for the company and has remained in continuous production ever since.

This example is presented in excellent vintage condition with signs of age and a beautiful patina that enhances the natural character of the oak and cord. It is a timeless piece that represents the essence of mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship and design philosophy.

Dimensions are 70 cm wide, 75 cm deep, and 72 cm high (27.6 x 29.5 x 28.3 in), with a seat height of 37 cm (14.6 in)
