Information

A rare pair of easy chairs model CH-27 designed by Hans J. Wegner in 1949, produced by Carl Hansen & Søn, Denmark. This early design reflects Wegner’s continued exploration of organic form and structural clarity, combining traditional craftsmanship with a distinctly modern expression. The chairs demonstrate his mastery in balancing sculptural presence with functional comfort, resulting in a design that appears both light and architecturally precise.

Crafted in solid oak, the frames display a warm, natural tone with a finely grained surface and smooth, hand-finished contours. The construction is characterized by elegant joinery and subtly tapered elements, most notably in the angular rear legs and the gently curved armrests. The backrest uprights extend slightly above the woven panel, forming a distinctive silhouette that emphasizes verticality while maintaining a soft, organic flow. The armrests are broad and slightly flattened, offering both visual weight and ergonomic support.

The seat and back are executed in handwoven cane, arranged in a tight, rhythmic pattern that provides both flexibility and durability. The weaving is carefully integrated into the frame, with refined transitions and a consistent tension that enhances seating comfort. The open structure of the cane introduces a sense of lightness and transparency, contrasting beautifully with the solidity of the oak frame.

The chairs are in excellent condition with minor signs of age and use. The oak surfaces show a well-preserved patina with light wear consistent with careful use, and the cane remains intact with only minimal irregularities, maintaining both strength and visual integrity.

Dimensions: height 71.5 cm (28.1 in), width 72 cm (28.3 in), depth 77 cm (30.3 in), seat height 36 cm (14.2 in).
