Hans Wegner side table
This rare side or sewing table, model AT-33, was designed by Hans Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark during the 1950s. The table is crafted from teak and oak, with a warm natural finish that accentuates the rich grain of the wood. The combination of these two woods creates a harmonious balance of light and dark tones, enhancing the piece’s aesthetic appeal. The table is functional and elegant, featuring two drop leaves that extend the tabletop, providing additional space when needed.
A single drawer with internal dividers offers storage for smaller items, while beneath the drawer, a removable woven rattan basket is suspended for additional storage, making the table ideal for both practical use and decorative purposes. The woven rattan basket adds a textural contrast to the smooth wooden surfaces and enhances the overall design. The structure is supported by tapered legs and includes a lower shelf, adding both stability and further functionality. The lower shelf provides space for storage or display, enhancing the table’s utility while maintaining the clean lines and minimalist aesthetic characteristic of Scandinavian design.
Designed in the 1950s, this table embodies mid-century Scandinavian modern principles, combining practical elements with refined craftsmanship. Wegner’s design philosophy often focused on creating furniture that was both functional and aesthetically pleasing, and the AT-33 table is no exception. The piece is an excellent example of the Danish modern style, where simplicity, utility, and beauty coexist seamlessly.
The table remains in excellent vintage condition, showcasing the quality craftsmanship and timeless appeal of Hans Wegner’s design work. The use of natural wood finishes and thoughtful, functional design makes this table a standout piece in any mid-century modern interior.
