Information

This rare side or sewing table, model AT-33, was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark during the 1950s. The table is crafted in teak and oak with a woven rattan basket and represents the fusion of functionality and refined craftsmanship that defines Wegner’s work and Danish modern design of the period.

The construction combines light and dark woods to emphasize the balance between structure and surface. The tabletop, in teak, is complemented by an oak drawer fitted with wooden pulls and an internal organizer of movable dividers and pegs. Beneath the drawer hangs a woven rattan basket, designed to hold textiles or accessories, which exemplifies Wegner’s sensitivity to natural materials. The table also features drop-leaf extensions on both sides, allowing the width to be adjusted for flexible use. Below, a lower shelf provides additional storage, supported by tapering oak legs that give the piece an airy yet stable presence.

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) was one of the leading figures of Danish modernism, known for his organic approach to woodworking and his belief that beauty should arise from function. His collaboration with Andreas Tuck—an esteemed Danish cabinetmaker renowned for precision and quality—produced some of the most enduring furniture pieces of mid-century design.

This example has been completely restored and remains in good vintage condition, showing light, age-consistent traces of use while retaining the warmth and depth of the original finish. The combination of teak, oak, and rattan reflects the Scandinavian ideal of natural harmony and timeless craftsmanship.

Dimensions: 66.5 cm wide (118.5 cm with leaves extended), 57 cm deep, and 60 cm high (26.18/46.65 x 22.44 x 23.62 inches).
