Hans Wegner side table
This rare model AT-33 side or sewing table was designed by Hans J. Wegner and produced by Andreas Tuck in Denmark during the 1950s. The table is constructed from solid oak combined with teak veneer, finished naturally with oil to emphasize the tonal variation and grain of both woods. A central feature is the suspended woven rattan basket integrated beneath a shallow drawer, designed specifically for storing textiles or small items. The drawer interior is thoughtfully organized with multiple compartments and vertical dowels to accommodate sewing accessories, threads, or tools.
The rectangular tabletop includes two hinged drop leaves, allowing the surface to expand from a compact 66.5 centimeters wide by 57.5 centimeters deep to 117.5 centimeters wide with both leaves extended. The total height of the table is 60.5 centimeters (approximately 26.2 by 22.6 by 23.8 inches, extending to 46.3 inches wide).
Hans Wegner, a leading figure in 20th-century Danish design, was celebrated for combining functional elegance with refined materials. This piece embodies his meticulous craftsmanship and balanced proportions, merging fine woodworking with practical utility. Andreas Tuck, the cabinetmaker responsible for production, was a frequent collaborator of Wegner and known for exceptional quality.
The table is in very good condition, showing only light surface wear and minor age-related patina. The rattan basket remains intact without damage, and all functional elements, including the drop-leaf hinges and drawer, operate smoothly.
