Information

This ceiling lamp is a very rare and large flush-mount model designed by Swedish designer Harald Notini. It is a variant of model “11038” produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in the 1930s. Notini, active primarily in the first half of the 20th century, was known for blending traditional Swedish decorative aesthetics with the emerging functionalist trends of the era. His work for Böhlmarks is particularly distinguished by refined craftsmanship and the elegant use of materials suited for both domestic and institutional interiors.

The fixture features a broad circular diffuser made from velour-finished opaline glass, providing a soft, even illumination and reducing glare while enhancing the architectural presence of the lamp. The glass shade is voluminous with a flattened, elliptical profile that evokes a subtle modernist sensibility. It is mounted to the ceiling via a short stem and canopy in matt nickel-plated metal, a finish characteristic of 1930s Scandinavian lighting that emphasized subdued elegance over ornamentation.

Inside, the lamp is fitted with six light points, allowing for substantial and evenly distributed illumination, suitable for larger spaces such as foyers, stairwells, or reception areas. The opaline glass surface subtly diffuses light both downward and outward, and when illuminated, the fixture appears as a soft glowing disc, floating close to the ceiling.

Harald Notini was closely associated with the Swedish Grace movement before transitioning into more modernist expressions in the 1930s. His lighting designs typically merged geometric restraint with material refinement, as seen in this piece. Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik, one of Sweden’s foremost lighting manufacturers during this period, produced lighting for both residential and public environments and is notable for collaborations with leading designers of the time.

The lamp remains in excellent condition with well-preserved nickel-plated surfaces and a clean, intact glass shade. Its dimensions are 60 cm in diameter and 45 cm in height, which corresponds approximately to 23.62 inches in diameter and 17.72 inches in height.
