Information

This rare pair of ceiling lamps, model 11773, was designed by Harald Notini and produced by Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik in Sweden in 1948. The lamps represent a refined postwar interpretation of Scandinavian modernism, where functional clarity is combined with subtle decorative detailing and high material quality.

Each lamp is executed entirely in brass and features a distinctly conical shade with a sharply defined silhouette. The surface of the shade is punctuated by a series of small perforations near the upper section, as well as a rhythmically cut, scalloped edge at the lower rim. These details serve both aesthetic and functional purposes, allowing light to escape in controlled patterns while reinforcing the graphic character of the design. The long, slender suspension rods and simple ceiling cups emphasize verticality and give the lamps an elegant, architectural presence.

Harald Notini was one of Sweden’s most influential lighting designers during the mid-20th century, closely associated with Böhlmarks Lampfabrik. His work is known for its precise metalwork, carefully balanced proportions, and innovative handling of light and shadow. Model 11773 reflects these qualities clearly, combining a strong geometric form with a nuanced lighting effect that becomes especially pronounced when the lamps are illuminated.

Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik was one of Sweden’s leading lighting manufacturers, with a long tradition of high-quality craftsmanship and collaboration with prominent designers. During the 1940s, the company played a central role in shaping Swedish lighting design, producing fixtures that bridged traditional craftsmanship and emerging modernist ideals.

The lamps measure approximately 25 cm in diameter and 87 cm in total height, corresponding to about 9.8 inches in diameter and 34.3 inches in height. They are in good vintage condition, showing visible signs of use and an even, well-developed patina to the brass surfaces. These traces of age are consistent with original mid-century brass and contribute to the historical character of the pair.
