Information

This very rare easy chair was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Selig in Denmark during the 1960s. The chair embodies the mid-century Scandinavian aesthetic through its refined proportions, organic curves, and the harmonious use of traditional materials like teak and cane.

The frame is made from solid teak with a medium reddish-brown tone and a subtle grain pattern. The armrests are gently curved and taper to rounded ends, creating visual balance with the slender, tapered legs and the chair’s low profile. The rear legs are slightly splayed, and the structure features angled joints that enhance both its geometry and ergonomic comfort.

The backrest consists of handwoven cane set within the teak frame, shaped with a gentle concavity to improve comfort. The cane has naturally aged, showing some breakage in individual strands but retaining its overall integrity. The seat cushion is newly upholstered in off-white bouclé fabric, providing a soft texture and subtle visual contrast against the warm teak and natural cane tones. This upholstery preserves the chair’s understated character while adding tactile depth.

Ib Kofod-Larsen was a key figure in Danish mid-century design, renowned for creating sculptural yet functional seating. His collaborations with manufacturers such as Selig helped to extend Scandinavian design’s reach internationally, particularly in the United States during the postwar era.

The chair measures 72.5 centimeters in width (28.5 inches), 70 centimeters in depth (27.6 inches), and 71 centimeters in height (28 inches), with a seat height of 39 centimeters (15.4 inches). It is in good vintage condition, showing light wear on the frame and some broken strands in the cane backrest consistent with age and use. The structure remains stable, and all components are original except for the updated seat upholstery.
