Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model Sälen (Seal), was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE in Sweden during the 1950s. The frames are made of solid teak, showcasing the wood’s warm reddish-brown hues and fine grain. The design features fluid, sculptural lines with outwardly angled legs and subtly curved armrests, lending the chairs an elegant and dynamic profile.

The seats and backrests are upholstered in the original cognac brown/tan leather, which has developed a rich patina over time. The leather is stretched over molded shells, providing both support and comfort. Removable, padded seat cushions enhance the sitting experience, while the slightly reclined backrests contribute to the chairs’ relaxed and inviting nature.

Ib Kofod-Larsen was a leading figure in Scandinavian modernism, celebrated for his refined designs that balanced aesthetics with ergonomics. His work often emphasized organic shapes and superior craftsmanship. OPE Möbler, the Swedish manufacturer, was known for precise woodworking and partnerships with prominent designers of the era.

These chairs are in well-preserved vintage condition, showing signs of use consistent with age. Each chair measures 80 cm in width, 80 cm in depth, and 72.5 cm in height (31.5 x 31.5 x 28.5 inches), with a seat height of 39 cm (15.4 inches).
