Ib Kofod-Larsen easy chairs
This very rare and early pair of easy chairs was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by the distinguished Danish cabinetmaker Christensen & Larsen. The chairs are emblematic of the refined craftsmanship and sculptural modernism that defined Kofod-Larsen’s early work during the 1950s, showcasing both architectural elegance and tactile materiality.
The frames are crafted from solid teak, a wood favored in Scandinavian furniture design for its durability, rich coloration, and expressive grain. The teak has matured into a deep, warm tone with subtle variations that enhance the visual depth of the structure. The form is composed of clean, angular lines and softly curved transitions, particularly visible in the rear legs and arm supports, which sweep gently backward in a continuous arc. This interplay of straight and curved elements lends the chairs a sculptural presence while maintaining a restrained and functional outline.
The seat and backrest are newly upholstered in Gabriel Savak wool fabric—a plain-woven textile known for its soft hand and robust weave. The off-white tone of the wool contrasts elegantly with the darker teak, contributing to a calm, modern aesthetic. The reupholstery has been executed to a high standard, ensuring tight seams, uniform padding, and crisp profiles that align with the original design intent.
Condition is excellent, both structurally and cosmetically. The teak frames display only minimal signs of age, with no major surface blemishes or structural issues. The new upholstery is clean and precisely fitted, reinforcing the chairs’ restored and well-preserved state.
