Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model Sälen, was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE Möbler in Sweden during the 1950s. The chairs showcase a sculptural teak frame, distinguished by smooth, organic lines that are characteristic of Kofod-Larsen’s refined approach to wood craftsmanship. The armrests taper elegantly, flowing seamlessly into the frame, enhancing both the aesthetic and ergonomic qualities.

The seats and backrests retain their original black leather upholstery, which has aged gracefully to develop a rich patina that highlights the vintage character of the pieces. The deep, angled seat design reflects Kofod-Larsen’s focus on comfort without compromising on visual impact.

Ib Kofod-Larsen was a prominent figure in Scandinavian modernism, celebrated for blending sculptural elegance with practical functionality. OPE Möbler, the Swedish manufacturer, was known for producing high-quality furniture through close collaborations with top Scandinavian designers, ensuring exceptional craftsmanship and lasting appeal.

These chairs show typical signs of use, including some dryness in the padding and surface wear on the leather consistent with their age, but remain structurally sound and well-maintained. Each chair measures 80 cm in width, 80 cm in depth, and 73.5 cm in height, with a seat height of 41 cm (31.5 x 31.5 x 28.9 inches, seat height 16.1 inches).
