Information

This rare pair of easy chairs, model Sälen, was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE in Sweden during the 1950s. The design embodies Scandinavian modernism, highlighting organic forms, meticulous craftsmanship, and a balanced harmony between materials.

The frames are crafted from solid teak, featuring sculpted armrests and elegantly tapered legs that contribute to a construction that is both light and sturdy. The backrests are slightly reclined to enhance comfort and ergonomic support. The original black leather upholstery covers both the seat and backrest, providing a striking contrast to the warm tones of the teak frame.

Ib Kofod-Larsen was a Danish designer renowned for his expertise in woodwork and upholstery. His designs combined functionalist principles with refined aesthetics, emphasizing simplicity, durability, and timeless elegance. His collaborations with Scandinavian manufacturers, including OPE in Sweden, are well regarded.

The chairs are in condition consistent with their age, displaying a rich patina on both the wood and leather surfaces. The dimensions measure 80 cm in width, 80 cm in depth, and 73.5 cm in height (approximately 31.5 by 31.5 by 28.9 inches), with a seat height of 41 cm (16.1 inches).
