Information

This rare pair of Samsö easy chairs was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by OPE Möbler in Sweden during the 1950s. The design reflects Kofod-Larsen’s signature approach of combining sculptural elegance with functionality, featuring gently curved frames and refined joinery. The chairs are executed in solid rosewood, displaying a warm, expressive grain pattern that enhances the lightness and organic character of the design.

The seat and back cushions are upholstered in original brown leather, which has developed a soft and appealing patina over time. The leather shows small, natural signs of wear consistent with careful use, adding to the authenticity and charm of the pieces. The cushions are generously filled, offering a comfortable seating experience while maintaining the chair’s slim and architectural silhouette.

Ib Kofod-Larsen was one of the most prolific Danish designers of the mid-20th century, known for his sophisticated forms and subtle detailing. His work is closely associated with Scandinavian modernism, characterized by its combination of fine materials, craftsmanship, and minimal ornamentation. The Samsö model is an excellent example of his ability to balance a lightweight frame with comfort, resulting in furniture that is both elegant and inviting.

OPE Möbler, the Swedish manufacturer responsible for producing these chairs, was known for high-quality craftsmanship and collaboration with leading Scandinavian designers. The company’s output during the mid-century period represents some of the finest Swedish interpretations of Danish modern furniture design.

Each chair measures 72 cm in width, 74 cm in depth, and 74 cm in height (28.3 x 29.1 x 29.1 inches), with a seat height of 39 cm (15.4 inches). They are presented in excellent vintage condition, with only minor surface marks and a consistent patina that highlights their well-preserved state and original materials.
