Information

This rare sideboard, designed by Danish architect and designer Ib Kofod-Larsen, was produced by Brande Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. A key example of Scandinavian mid-century modern cabinetry, the piece is marked by its refined proportions, natural materials, and clarity of line, all hallmarks of Kofod-Larsen’s approach to design.

The sideboard is constructed from richly grained rosewood, offering a deep, warm tone with prominent figure throughout the case, doors, and top. The vertical symmetry and book-matched panels contribute to a balanced and sophisticated appearance. The front is fitted with a pair of integrated vertical handles in solid rosewood, subtly projecting from the doors with sculptural tactility, preserving the minimalist aesthetic. The doors open to reveal an interior of light birch or maple with fitted shelves and sliding drawers, some of which retain their original green felt lining.

Supporting the cabinet is a raised base consisting of turned cylindrical legs, reinforced by steel stretchers arranged in a cross-braced geometry. The structural metal elements are minimal yet effective, offering a visual counterpoint to the organic rosewood grain while providing enhanced stability and architectural presence.

Ib Kofod-Larsen was one of the most internationally recognized Danish designers of his time, known for his graceful and functional furniture. His work often merged the softer, organic qualities of Danish Modernism with a more sculptural, even architectural edge. Brande Møbelfabrik, though a smaller workshop, was known for its high production standards and collaborations with leading designers during the golden era of Danish furniture manufacturing.

The condition of the sideboard is good vintage, with only minor signs of use consistent with age and careful handling. The rosewood surfaces retain their richness and clarity, and the structure remains solid and well preserved.

The dimensions are 206 cm wide (81.1 inches), 50 cm deep (19.7 inches), and 79.5 cm high (31.3 inches).
