Information

This very rare freestanding sideboard, model FA-33, was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen and produced by Faarup Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1950s. Constructed in rosewood, the piece showcases a vivid and highly figured grain pattern that runs across the front and sides, emphasizing the natural beauty of the wood.

The cabinet features two tambour doors and four drawers arranged asymmetrically to the right, creating a balanced yet dynamic horizontal composition. The tambour doors conceal adjustable shelving, while the drawers are sculpted with integrated handles carved directly into the wood, highlighting meticulous craftsmanship and a harmonious material expression.

The form is characterized by softly rounded corners and beveled edges, complemented by tapered legs connected by a horizontal stretcher at the rear, which enhances both structural support and visual lightness. Elevated on a solid rosewood base, the cabinet appears to float, a hallmark of Scandinavian modern design. Its elongated, low proportions are optimized for freestanding placement in open interiors rather than positioned against a wall.

Ib Kofod-Larsen (1921–2003) was a renowned Danish architect and furniture designer known for his sculptural, refined forms and collaborations with leading Scandinavian manufacturers. His work frequently involved the use of rich hardwoods such as teak and rosewood, and he was highly regarded for his sensitivity to materiality and proportion. The FA-33 sideboard stands as one of his most celebrated large-scale storage designs, produced in limited quantities by Faarup Møbelfabrik, a workshop recognized for its precise cabinetmaking and use of premium materials.

The sideboard is in excellent vintage condition, showing minimal wear. The rosewood surfaces retain their original finish and depth, with only slight marks consistent with careful use over time.

The dimensions are 220 cm wide, 50.5 cm deep, and 84.5 cm high, approximately 86.6 x 19.9 x 33.3 inches.
