Johannes Andersen dining chairs

This set of six dining chairs and two armchairs was designed by Danish furniture designer Johannes Andersen in the 1960s and produced by Uldum Møbelfabrik in Denmark. The chairs embody the refined craftsmanship and organic forms characteristic of Scandinavian mid-century modern design. Constructed from rosewood, the frames feature a deep, natural grain with a rich patina that enhances their sculptural quality. The design is marked by gently tapered legs, subtly curved backrests, and armrests on the two end chairs that extend seamlessly from the structure. The brown leather upholstery is original, offering a warm contrast to the dark wood frame while ensuring durability and comfort. The seats and backrests are slightly contoured, providing ergonomic support.

Johannes Andersen was known for his innovative yet functional furniture designs, often incorporating smooth, flowing lines and carefully proportioned structures. His work reflects the Danish modernist movement’s emphasis on quality materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Uldum Møbelfabrik, the manufacturer, was a leading Danish furniture producer, recognized for its commitment to precision and high-quality woodworking. The set remains in very good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear consistent with age and use.
