Johannes Andersen dining chairs
This set of ten dining chairs was designed by the Danish architect and designer Johannes Andersen and produced by Uldum Møbelfabrik in Denmark during the 1960s. Andersen was an important figure in the Scandinavian modern movement, known for his sculptural and organic approach to furniture design, often blending elegance with functionality. His work for Uldum exemplifies the high craftsmanship and refined aesthetic of Danish mid-century furniture.
The chairs are crafted from mahogany, a wood valued for its rich tone and durability. The frames are slender yet sturdy, with Andersen’s characteristic soft curves and sculptural details visible in the armrests of the two armchairs included in the set. The seats and backs are upholstered in brown leather, which adds both comfort and a sense of understated luxury. The leather is well-preserved, showing only minor signs of usage that contribute to the authenticity and patina of the set.
This group includes eight side chairs and two armchairs, offering a complete dining set. The design is representative of mid-century Scandinavian ideals, combining natural materials, craftsmanship, and functional modernism. The warm wood and leather surfaces create a tactile contrast, while the clean lines make the chairs adaptable to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
Dimensions for the armchairs are 56.5 cm in width, 55 cm in depth, and 85 cm in height, with a seat height of 44 cm (22.2 x 21.7 x 33.5 in, SH 17.3 in).
The side chairs measure 46 cm in width, 51 cm in depth, and 85 cm in height, with a seat height of 44 cm (18.1 x 20.1 x 33.5 in, SH 17.3 in)
