Information

This rare armchair, model no. 3758A—commonly known as “The Red Chair”—was designed by Kaare Klint and produced by Rud. Rasmussen in Denmark during the 1930s. It represents an early and iconic example of Danish modern design, distinguished by its exceptional craftsmanship, use of premium materials, and balanced proportions.

The frame is made from Cuban mahogany, prized for its dense, fine grain and rich coloration, which adds both strength and elegance to the chair. The seat and backrest are upholstered in the original blue / green leather, that has developed a beautiful patina over time. The visible wear on the leather reflects its age and usage, contributing to the chair’s authenticity and historical significance.

Kaare Klint, often regarded as the father of Danish modernism, emphasized functional design combined with classical architectural proportions, laying the groundwork for the mid-century Danish design movement. Rud. Rasmussen, a prestigious Danish cabinetmaker, produced many of Klint’s designs with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the highest standards of quality.

The chair measures 60 cm in width, 56 cm in depth, and 89 cm in height (23.6 x 22 x 35 inches), with a seat height of 45 cm (17.7 inches). It remains a distinguished piece that embodies the principles of early Danish modern furniture design.
