Information

This rare three-seat sofa was designed by Danish architect and furniture designer Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen and produced by Søborg Møbler in Denmark during the 1960s. The frame is crafted from solid rosewood, showcasing visible joinery and an angular leg construction that exemplifies the precision and quality typical of Danish cabinetmaking. The seat and backrest cushions are upholstered in the original cognac-colored leather, which has developed a natural patina with creasing and wear consistent with age, adding character and authenticity to the piece.

The sofa presents a linear and architectural form with slightly canted backrests and trapezoidal armrests that taper outward. Its balanced and restrained composition reflects the mid-century Scandinavian design ethos, where functional clarity is paired with warm material expression. The dark, distinctive grain of the rosewood base contrasts harmoniously with the warm tones of the leather upholstery, creating a grounded yet refined aesthetic.

Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen (1920–2001) was a notable figure in postwar Danish design, trained as an architect and known for furniture marked by precise proportions, craftsmanship, and subtle sculptural detailing. His collaborations with Søborg Møbler during the 1950s and 1960s resulted in several highly regarded designs, many of which were produced in limited quantities, adding to their rarity today.

Søborg Møbler, established in 1890, was a prominent Danish furniture manufacturer celebrated for its partnerships with leading designers such as Børge Mogensen and Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen. The company was known for its artisanal approach and commitment to traditional woodworking techniques, especially in solid hardwoods like teak and rosewood.

This sofa remains in good original condition, structurally sound with minor signs of wear on the leather and frame appropriate for its age. It exemplifies the understated luxury and meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of Danish mid-century design. The dimensions are 188 cm wide, 80 cm deep, and 74 cm high, with a seat height of 39 cm, approximately 74 inches wide, 31.5 inches deep, 29.1 inches high, and a seat height of 15.4 inches.
