Kjell Blomberg vases

This set of three glass vases was designed by Kjell Blomberg and produced at Gullaskruf glassworks in Sweden in 1963. The group represents a refined example of Swedish mid-century glass design, characterized by controlled organic form and restrained use of color.

Each vase is free-blown in lightly tinted glass with a pale green hue, showing subtle variations in tone and thickness typical of hand production. The forms are pear-shaped with softly rounded bodies tapering toward a narrow, gently flared neck. The asymmetrical, slightly pinched rim gives each vase an individual character while maintaining a cohesive overall expression within the set. The glass surface is smooth and translucent, allowing light to pass through and emphasizing the internal volume of each piece.

Kjell Blomberg was active at Gullaskruf during a period when Swedish glass design focused on simplicity, natural form, and material sensitivity. His work often explored balanced proportions and understated color, aligning with the broader Scandinavian design ethos of the early 1960s. Gullaskruf, founded in the late 19th century, was known for high-quality artistic glass and collaborated with several notable designers, contributing significantly to Sweden’s international reputation in studio and production glass.

The vases are in excellent vintage condition, showing light signs of use and age-related patina consistent with their production period. Minor surface marks and small internal bubbles may be present, inherent to the glassmaking process and not considered flaws. No cracks or structural damage are observed.

Stylistically, the set fits within the Scandinavian mid-century tradition, where organic form, functional clarity, and subtle coloration are prioritized over ornamentation. The vases can be used individually or displayed as a grouped arrangement, emphasizing their harmonious proportions and gentle variation.

Each vase measures approximately 12 cm in diameter and 19 cm in height, corresponding to about 4.7 inches in diameter and 7.5 inches in height.
