Lennart Bender sideboard
This rare sideboard, model Corona, was designed by Lennart Bender and produced by Ulferts in Tibro, Sweden, during the 1960s. The cabinet is crafted primarily from teak with rosewood detailing, embodying the clarity and balance typical of Scandinavian modernism of the period. Its rectilinear and restrained design highlights warm, straight-grained teak surfaces paired with precise geometric forms.
The sideboard is divided into two sections: a double-door cabinet on the left and a stack of four drawers on the right. The drawer fronts feature dark rosewood inlays with recessed circular pulls, offering both tactile and visual contrast to the surrounding teak and reflecting the era’s attention to functional details. The doors are equipped with matching square rosewood handles featuring circular grips.
Supporting the cabinet are four solid legs joined with inset mortise joints and stretchers, demonstrating high-quality craftsmanship and structural integrity. The legs raise the cabinet slightly off the floor, giving the piece a lighter visual footprint despite its considerable width.
Lennart Bender was active during the peak of Scandinavian mid-century design, and his work with Ulferts represents Swedish cabinetry characterized by fine craftsmanship and modular simplicity. Ulferts, located in the furniture hub of Tibro, was known for clean-lined, well-constructed designs suited to modern living environments.
The sideboard is in very good vintage condition, showing minor signs of age and use, including subtle wear on the wood surfaces and hardware consistent with careful domestic use.
