Information

This pair of floor lamps, model 30-058, was designed by Finnish designer Lisa Johansson-Pape and produced by the renowned Finnish lighting manufacturer Orno during the 1940s. Johansson-Pape was known for her functionalist approach, emphasizing practical use while maintaining elegant proportions and refined detailing, which is evident in the lamps’ clean structural lines and balanced material contrasts. Orno, active during the golden era of Scandinavian modern design, specialized in producing high-quality lighting that blended craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.

The lamps feature a harmonious combination of lacquered metal, brass, cane, and wood. The tripod base, formed from three slender white-lacquered metal rods, ensures stability while maintaining a visually light footprint. Brass detailing is found at the junctions, adding warmth and a subtle reflective quality, while the cane lampshades introduce an organic texture that diffuses light softly, casting patterned shadows. The cylindrical brass bulb holder has a ribbed texture, enhancing the tactile and visual interest of the design.

The condition is described as good vintage, with signs of usage and a pleasing patina that speaks to the lamps’ age and authenticity. Minor wear is visible on the lacquered surfaces and brass fittings, consistent with decades of careful use, while the cane shades have aged gracefully, developing a warm tone that complements the brass.

These lamps are exemplary of mid-century Scandinavian design, combining natural and industrial materials in a way that is both functional and atmospheric. Their aesthetic aligns with the era’s ethos of simplicity, craftsmanship, and material honesty, while their tall, slender form gives them a sculptural presence in a room.

Dimensions are 35 x 156 cm (13.8 x 61.4 inches).
