Mirror

This wall mirror, produced in Denmark during the 1960s by Jansen Spejle, features a refined frame crafted from solid rosewood. The mirror is distinguished by its subtly curved horizontal edges and slightly tapered vertical sides, forming a trapezoidal silhouette. This design introduces a sculptural dimension while maintaining the functional simplicity characteristic of mid-century modern wall pieces. The rosewood frame showcases a deep, warm tone, with striking grain variation, including both linear and swirling patterns typical of the species. The construction emphasizes simplicity and precision, with mitred joints and minimal embellishment. The frame’s depth is shallow, measuring just 2 cm, which enhances its low profile against the wall and contributes to the floating visual effect. Both the top and bottom rails of the frame are subtly curved, adding an organic rhythm that softens the rectangular form and brings a sense of harmony to the overall design.

Jansen Spejle was a Danish mirror producer known for its high-quality glasswork and collaborations with furniture manufacturers and designers during the mid-20th century. Although the designer of this specific model remains unidentified, the proportions, choice of material, and refined detailing are consistent with the Scandinavian modern movement’s emphasis on clarity of form and material honesty.

The mirror remains in good original condition, with only minor signs of wear. The mirror glass is clear and undamaged, and the rosewood frame retains its original finish with an even patina. The original label is affixed to the reverse, reading “Jansen Spejle” followed by model number 603.
