Nordiska Kompaniet table lamp
This rare table lamp was produced by NK (Nordiska Kompaniet) in Sweden during the 1940s. The lamp is executed in brass with a lacquered metal shade, combining the rich tones of patinated brass with the softer warmth of the painted surface. Its design reflects Swedish Modern principles, blending classical detailing with functional clarity.
The lamp features a wide, shallow dome-shaped shade in a soft cream-yellow lacquer, topped with an ornate brass finial in a stylized floral form. The stem is vertically fluted and rests on a turned brass base with a broad circular foot, providing both stability and decorative presence. A small switch is integrated directly into the base, typical of the period’s functional solutions.
NK was one of Sweden’s most influential department stores and design producers in the early to mid-20th century, commissioning and producing furniture and lighting by some of the country’s leading designers. Their lighting objects often balanced refined craftsmanship with stylistic elegance, aimed at a modern and sophisticated clientele.
The lamp shows signs of use and a pleasing patina, consistent with its age. These surface variations highlight the authenticity and long history of the piece while maintaining its structural integrity and full functionality.
