Otto Schulz easy chairs
Rare pair of easy chairs, model Schulz, designed by Otto Schulz and produced by Boet in Gothenburg, Sweden during the 1940s. Executed in beech with brass rivet detailing and upholstered in the original patterned fabric, these chairs exemplify Schulz’s distinctive blend of traditional craftsmanship and expressive modern form.
The rounded, embracing backrest transitions seamlessly into the short, curved arm sections, creating a sculptural silhouette that is both compact and inviting. The deep seat and generous upholstery provide exceptional comfort, while the hand-applied brass nailheads outline the contours of the frame with decorative precision. The vibrant fabric—featuring an abstract floral pattern in deep blue, teal, and olive tones—enhances the visual richness of the design and remains in remarkable original condition.
The legs, crafted in solid beech, are elegantly curved and slightly splayed, giving the chairs a stable yet graceful stance. The overall composition reflects Schulz’s sensitivity to proportion and texture, as well as his interest in combining modernist simplicity with decorative luxury, a hallmark of Swedish Grace and early Scandinavian modern design.
The pair remains in good vintage condition with visible patina and minor signs of use consistent with age.
