Paavo Tynell table lamp
Rare table lamp model 5061 designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy in Finland during the 1950s. Executed in brass with a wide opaline glass diffuser and characteristic perforated dual-light construction beneath the shade. The elegant proportions and restrained detailing are representative of Tynell’s refined organic modernism, where functional lighting is combined with sculptural simplicity and warm materiality.
The lamp features a spun brass stem with a circular weighted base and a distinctive shallow dome shade composed of a patinated brass top resting above a white opaline glass ring diffuser. The concealed dual bulb arrangement creates a soft indirect illumination with an atmospheric glow, accentuating the translucent quality of the glass and the warmth of the brass surfaces. Original aged brass patina throughout contributes to the lamp’s authentic mid-century character.
Designed by Paavo Tynell, one of the most influential figures in Scandinavian lighting design, model 5061 reflects the sophisticated yet understated aesthetic that defined Finnish lighting during the post-war period. Tynell’s work for Taito Oy is celebrated internationally for its craftsmanship, elegant material combinations, and atmospheric light qualities, with many of his designs becoming enduring icons of Nordic modernism.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition with visible signs of age and use, including oxidation, surface wear, and patina to the brass. The glass diffuser is later production. Fully functional with renewed twisted textile cord.
