Information

This large quantity of wall lamps was designed by Peter Celsing and produced by Falkenbergs Belysning in Sweden in 1966. The lamps were originally created for Kulturhuset in Stockholm, one of Celsing’s most significant architectural projects, completed in the early 1970s. Their design reflects the strong functionalist and architectural character of Celsing’s work, combining simple geometric forms with an emphasis on materiality and spatial effect. Each lamp consists of a circular, deep-drawn shade in yellow-foiled aluminium, designed to reflect and spread the light in a soft yet focused manner. The cylindrical form allows the lamp to act both as an uplight and as a diffuser, casting a warm and even glow on the wall surface.

The yellow foil finish gives the lamps a warm golden tone that enhances the reflected light, creating a rich ambience that was well-suited to the cultural and public spaces for which they were designed. The condition is very good, with light traces of use and minor patina that correspond to their age and original setting, but the structural integrity and reflective quality remain excellent.

Peter Celsing (1920–1974) was a renowned Swedish architect, celebrated for his modernist and brutalist architecture, including major projects such as Kulturhuset and Filmhuset in Stockholm. His designs often integrated furniture and lighting solutions that were specially developed to harmonize with the architecture. These wall lamps are a testament to his holistic design approach, where lighting was conceived as an integral part of the building’s experience.

Stylistically, the lamps belong to the mid-century Scandinavian tradition but with a distinctly architectural presence. Their robust yet minimal form makes them suitable for both large-scale public interiors and private settings where a strong architectural lighting element is desired.

Dimensions are 29 cm in diameter and 16 cm deep, corresponding to approximately 11.4 x 6.3 inches.
