Information

This rare pair of table lamps, designed by Pierre Forssell and produced by Skultuna in Sweden during the 1950s, represents a refined example of Scandinavian modernist design. The lamps are crafted from brass and feature a geometric, sculptural composition that is characteristic of Forssell’s design philosophy. Each lamp has a square columnar base adorned with a three-dimensional folded brass detail, which adds depth and architectural quality to the otherwise minimalistic form. The brass surfaces have developed a natural patina over time, giving each piece a warm, aged character that enhances its visual appeal.

Pierre Forssell (1925–2004) was a Swedish designer and silversmith known for his exceptional work with Skultuna. His designs, particularly in brass, are recognized for their geometric precision, functional clarity, and understated elegance. Forssell’s ability to blend aesthetic refinement with practical use aligns perfectly with the principles of Scandinavian modernism, making his work timeless and highly regarded. His contributions to lighting and home accessories have left a lasting legacy, with these lamps serving as an example of his mastery of material and form.

Skultuna, established in 1607, is one of Sweden’s most prestigious metal manufacturers. Originally known for producing ecclesiastical brass pieces, the company evolved under Forssell’s direction to create modernist homeware that exemplified the ideals of Scandinavian design—functionality, simplicity, and enduring craftsmanship. Forssell’s collaboration with Skultuna solidified the company’s reputation for producing high-quality, visually striking pieces that seamlessly blended artistry with utility.

The lamps remain in good vintage condition, showing signs of age and patina on the brass. This natural wear enhances their character, contributing to their authenticity and charm.

The dimensions of each lamp are 4 cm in width, 4 cm in depth, and 18.5 cm in height (1.6 x 1.6 x 7.3 inches).
