Information

This rare ceiling lamp, model PH-5300, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1920s. The lamp is crafted from copper and nickel-plated steel, combining an industrial aesthetic with refined craftsmanship. Its signature multi-shade system is designed to diffuse light evenly and reduce glare, resulting in a soft and comfortable illumination.

The lamp features a tiered arrangement of three primary copper shades of varying diameters, which direct light both downward and laterally. The natural patina on the copper surfaces enhances the lamp’s historical character, while the nickel-plated steel components add a contrasting industrial touch. The upper section includes a cylindrical metal element that connects to the suspension cord, reflecting the original utilitarian design.

Poul Henningsen was a pioneer in lighting design, renowned for his scientifically developed shade systems that optimize light distribution. His collaboration with Louis Poulsen began in the 1920s and led to the creation of some of the most iconic lamps in Scandinavian design history. The PH series, including this early model, exemplifies his dedication to marrying aesthetics with functionality.

The lamp measures 50 cm in diameter (19.7 inches) and 48 cm in height (18.9 inches). It is in good vintage condition, showing age-appropriate wear primarily on the copper surfaces, which preserves its authenticity and original patina.
