Poul Henningsen ceiling lamp
This rare and early ceiling lamp, model PH-3/100, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. Its early production is confirmed by the stamped D.R.P. (Deutsche Reichs Patent), marking its place in design history.
Constructed from copper and brass, the lamp has developed a natural patina over time, adding character to its surface. The design features Henningsen’s signature three-shade system, engineered to direct light downward while minimizing glare. The largest upper shade offers broad diffusion, while the two smaller lower shades refine the light distribution, creating a warm, evenly dispersed illumination.
Poul Henningsen was a pioneering Danish designer and lighting theorist, celebrated for his innovative approach to light diffusion. His collaboration with Louis Poulsen produced iconic lighting pieces that remain cornerstones of Scandinavian modernism.
This lamp is a significant representation of Danish modern lighting, combining functional innovation with timeless aesthetics. It measures 32.5 cm in diameter and 32 cm in height (12.8 x 12.6 inches) and remains in good vintage condition, showing expected wear consistent with its age and use.
