Poul Henningsen ceiling lamp
This very rare ceiling lamp, model PH 3/3, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the 1930s. The “PAT. APPL” marking signifies that it belongs to the early production period of Henningsen’s innovative multi-shade lighting system, developed to provide glare-free and evenly distributed illumination.
Constructed entirely of copper, the lamp has developed a rich patina over time, adding depth and historical character to the piece. Poul Henningsen’s PH lamp series is celebrated for its scientific approach to light reflection, ensuring a soft, comfortable glow that minimizes harsh shadows. The PH 3/3 model adheres to his modular system, with the first number indicating the diameter of the top shade (approximately 29 cm) and the second number corresponding to the proportional size of the lower shades.
Exemplifying mid-century Scandinavian modern design, this lamp combines functionalism with meticulous craftsmanship and high-quality materials. It retains its original fittings and measures 29 cm in diameter and 25 cm in height (11.4 x 9.8 inches).
