Information

This rare and early table lamp model PH-3/2 was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark between 1927 and 1928. The lamp is stamped “PAT. APPL.” which confirms its status as one of the earliest production examples of Henningsen’s pioneering work with layered shade systems.

The lamp features the original frosted glass shades, executed in the classic three-shade system that Henningsen developed to eliminate glare and create soft, evenly distributed light. The glass elements are supported by a nickel-plated brass base and stem, both showing natural signs of age, oxidation, and patina that are consistent with its age. The base is weighted and circular, providing stability, while the stem carries finely detailed turning and proportion that reflects the precision of early Louis Poulsen production.

Poul Henningsen was one of Denmark’s most influential lighting designers, known for his scientific approach to light diffusion. The PH-3/2 was part of his early experiments that set the foundation for a long collaboration with Louis Poulsen and for what would later become some of the most iconic lighting designs of the 20th century. These early examples remain significant not only as functional objects but also as historical pieces within Scandinavian modernism.

The lamp remains in good vintage condition with expected traces of wear and patina, giving depth to the nickel-plated surfaces while retaining the integrity of its structure and original glass. Its timeless character reflects the rational yet poetic design ethos of early Scandinavian modern lighting.
