Poul Henningsen table lamp

This rare and early table lamp, model PH-4/3, was designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark during the formative years of his groundbreaking collaboration with the manufacturer. Dating to 1927–1928, as indicated by the “PAT. APPL.” marking, this lamp is among the earliest examples of Henningsen’s influential multi-shade lighting system—an innovation that remains foundational to modern lighting design.

The PH-4/3 table lamp embodies Henningsen’s core philosophy of glare-free, softly diffused light achieved through a carefully calculated system of concentric shades. In this model, the three-tiered glass shade configuration ensures that light is directed downward while being gently dispersed outward, producing a consistent and shadow-free illumination. The shade set, executed in amber-hued glass, not only serves a functional purpose but also adds a visual warmth and atmospheric glow when the lamp is lit.

The base and stem are constructed in solid brass, showing a deep, natural patina that has developed over nearly a century.
