Information

This very rare pair of easy chairs, model 56/2 ‘Bambi’, was designed by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling in 1954 and produced by Gustav Bahus in Norway. Constructed in solid teak, the chairs feature original black leather upholstery for both the seat and backrest, with a suspended design that emphasizes lightness and structural clarity. The organically curved armrests transition seamlessly into the backrest supports, forming a sculptural frame that is both visually striking and ergonomically refined.

The teak frames display a warm, rich grain with finely rounded edges and precise joinery, reflecting the high craftsmanship standards of Norwegian mid-century furniture production. The black leather has aged gracefully, showing subtle creases and patina that enhance its depth of character. The seat is formed from interlaced leather strips, creating both durability and a comfortable, supportive surface.

Rastad and Relling, pioneers of modern Norwegian design, were known for their ability to combine traditional woodworking skills with an elegant, modernist sensibility. The ‘Bambi’ model is regarded as one of their most iconic seating designs, notable for its architectural balance and tactile interplay between wood and leather. Its minimal yet expressive form reflects the mid-century Scandinavian ethos of functional beauty.

Dimensions: Width 65 cm (25.6 inches), Depth 61 cm (24 inches), Height 70 cm (27.6 inches), Seat Height 35 cm (13.8 inches).
