Rolf Rastad & Adolf Relling side table
This rare side table is model Syklus, designed by Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling and produced by Rasmus Solberg in Norway in 1962. The table is executed in rich Brazilian rosewood with visible, expressive grain patterns and brass hardware. The top consists of two hinged semicircles that pivot open to reveal a black lacquered storage compartment with divided sections, originally intended for bottles and bar accessories. The design balances functional storage with a refined sculptural presence.
Rastad and Relling were among Norway’s most important furniture designers of the mid-20th century, known for their work in developing modern Norwegian furniture that combined technical innovation with elegance. The Syklus table won recognition at the Norwegian Design Competition in 1962, as indicated by the brass label beneath the top. Its circular form and smooth, integrated handles show the designers’ attention to ergonomic detail, while the concealed storage emphasizes the Scandinavian ideal of practicality without sacrificing aesthetics.
The table is in good vintage condition with minor signs of use and age, including light surface wear and patina to the rosewood and brass consistent with its history. The black lacquered interior remains well-preserved and fully functional.
The dimensions are 59.5 cm in diameter and 42.5 cm in height (approximately 23.4 x 16.7 inches). This piece exemplifies Norwegian mid-century design and serves as both a functional bar or storage table and a striking centerpiece in a living room setting.
