Rolf Rastad & Adolf Relling side table
This rare side table, model Syklus, was designed by Norwegian designers Rolf Rastad and Adolf Relling and produced by Rasmus Solberg in Norway in 1962. It is a refined example of Scandinavian modernism, combining sculptural form with high-quality materials and a thoughtful approach to functionality.
The table is crafted in richly grained rosewood, displaying deep, warm tones and a striking natural pattern that emphasizes the organic beauty of the wood. The round top is supported by a delicately constructed frame with cylindrical legs connected by horizontal stretchers, showcasing the precision joinery and balanced proportions characteristic of Rastad and Relling’s work. Beneath the tabletop, a suspended suede sling provides an additional layer of functionality, serving as an elegant storage solution for magazines or books while adding texture and visual depth to the design. Discreet brass fittings complete the construction, highlighting the luxurious yet understated material palette.
Rastad and Relling, who were among Norway’s most influential mid-century designers, were known for their collaborative work that balanced modernist principles with Nordic craftsmanship traditions. Their designs often integrated functional innovation with a strong sculptural quality, and the Syklus table is a prime example of this approach — both practical and visually compelling.
The piece remains in excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age and use, and a well-preserved surface that has developed a beautiful patina over time.
