Information

This three-part mobile room divider was produced in Sweden during the 1960s and originally served a hospital environment. The divider’s structure is composed of a tubular steel frame with rounded corners, finished in a lightly patinated chrome or nickel plating. Each vertical panel is mounted on small swiveling caster wheels, allowing the divider to be easily moved, repositioned, or folded for compact storage.

The panels are fitted with their original light green textile curtains, which hang from top-mounted rods and are gathered at both the upper and lower edges, creating soft, vertical folds. The fabric has a subtle woven texture and retains its original color and drape, contributing a gentle contrast to the clean, structural lines of the metal frame. This combination of materials exemplifies the practical, hygienic, and functional approach characteristic of institutional modernist design.

Though intended for healthcare use, the divider’s minimalist aesthetic and utilitarian construction align closely with mid-century Scandinavian design ideals. Its folding capability allows for versatile spatial configurations, making it adaptable for use in both domestic and architectural interiors where flexible zoning or visual privacy is required.

The piece remains in good vintage condition, showing signs of oxidation and wear on the steel surfaces consistent with age and original use. The textile curtains are intact, with minor discoloration and some wear along the edges.

Each panel measures 85 cm wide, 45 cm deep, and 148 cm high, approximately 33.5 inches wide, 17.7 inches deep, and 58.3 inches high. When fully extended, the divider reaches a total width of approximately 255 cm, or 100.4 inches.
