Information

This rare freestanding desk was designed by Severin Hansen during the 1950s and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark. Executed in teak, the desk is a refined example of Hansen’s precise design language and his hallmark attention to structural detail. The rectangular top rests on four tapered legs, which are seamlessly integrated into the frame with his characteristic mitered corner joints, creating a clean and sharply defined silhouette.

The desk is equipped with three front-facing drawers, each fitted with a discreet keyhole. The drawers are recessed into the apron, continuing the desk’s minimalistic character without disturbing its smooth visual rhythm. This understated detailing reflects Hansen’s ability to combine functional storage with a strong architectural presence. The craftsmanship of Haslev Møbelsnedkeri is evident in the precision of the joinery and the high-quality teak grain, which displays a warm hue with subtle variations that highlight the natural beauty of the material.

Severin Hansen was a leading Danish furniture designer known for his work during the mid-20th century, particularly with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri. His designs are recognized for their clarity of line, exact proportions, and mastery of joinery. The distinctive mitered corners that define many of his pieces have become a signature of his style, emphasizing geometric purity and structural elegance. Hansen’s work belongs firmly within the canon of Scandinavian modern design, where function and form are distilled to their essentials.

The desk is presented in excellent vintage condition, having undergone complete restoration. It shows small signs of usage and a fine surface patina consistent with careful use and age, while maintaining the crisp geometry and refined surface finish of the original design.

Width 143 cm (56.3 inches), depth 75 cm (29.5 inches), height 73 cm (28.7 inches).
