Severin Hansen nesting tables
This set of three nesting tables was designed by Severin Hansen and produced by Haslev Møbelsnedkeri in Denmark during the 1950s. Executed in rosewood, the tables exemplify Hansen’s architectural approach to furniture design, characterized by sharp geometry and precise craftsmanship. The triangular joinery of the legs into the frame is a signature element, reflecting the precision and refinement typical of Danish modern cabinetmaking from this period.
The tables feature a rectangular top with a continuous rosewood veneer displaying rich grain patterns and deep brown hues with reddish undertones. The elegant tapering legs enhance the sculptural quality of the set, giving the pieces a light and refined appearance despite the solidity of the material. The nesting design allows the tables to be arranged together or separately, offering both aesthetic unity and functional flexibility.
The condition is good vintage with light traces of age and use, showing a developed patina that complements the natural depth of the rosewood. The set has been completely restored, preserving the original character of the material while ensuring structural integrity and a fine finish.
Severin Hansen was active during the height of the Danish modern movement, and his work with Haslev Møbelsnedkeri contributed to defining the understated elegance of mid-century Scandinavian design. His designs are appreciated for their subtle detailing and balanced proportions, often emphasizing the expressive qualities of wood through careful craftsmanship.
