Steffen Syrach-Larsen dining chairs
This rare set of eight dining chairs was designed by Steffan Syrach-Larsen and produced by cabinetmaker Gustav Bertelsen in Denmark during the 1960s. Constructed from solid rosewood, the frames exhibit the deep, varied grain patterns characteristic of this exotic hardwood, complemented by woven cane seats and backrests that enhance both visual lightness and comfort. The design reflects the principles of Danish modernism, emphasizing clean lines, organic materials, and expert craftsmanship. The subtly tapered legs and slightly reclined backrests contribute to an elegant yet functional form. The woven cane work, executed with precise handcrafting techniques, ensures flexibility and breathability while maintaining durability.
Steffan Syrach-Larsen was known for his dedication to traditional woodworking techniques, integrating refined joinery with contemporary Scandinavian aesthetics.
Gustav Bertelsen, a respected Danish cabinetmaker, produced furniture of exceptional quality, often characterized by a meticulous selection of materials and high attention to detail. The chairs remain in good vintage condition, with minor signs of wear consistent with their age. The rosewood frames have developed a natural patina, enhancing their rich appearance, while the cane weaving remains intact and structurally sound.
