Kaare Klint chair
A rare chair designed by Kaare Klint in 1933, produced by the renowned cabinetmaker Rud. Rasmussen in Denmark. The model reflects Klint’s disciplined approach to proportion, craftsmanship, and functional clarity, where every element is carefully considered and reduced to its essential form. Rooted in traditional English and Danish furniture-making principles, the design embodies an understated elegance and enduring practicality.
The frame is crafted in solid mahogany with a warm, reddish-brown tone and finely balanced proportions. The legs are slightly tapered with subtle curvature to the rear supports, connected by stretchers that provide both structural stability and a visual rhythm. The joinery and execution are of high cabinetmaking quality, characteristic of Rud. Rasmussen’s workshop.
The seat and backrest are upholstered in niger leather, finished in a rich cognac hue. The leather has developed a deep and varied patina over time, with visible creasing, tonal shifts, and surface markings that enhance its character. Both seat and back are edged with closely set brass studs, adding a refined decorative detail while emphasizing the clean geometry of the form. The seat is gently shaped for comfort, while the slightly curved backrest provides supportive ergonomics.
The chair remains in excellent condition with light, age-appropriate signs of use. The leather shows natural wear consistent with its age, and the mahogany frame retains a well-preserved surface with a soft sheen.
Measurements are 52.5 cm in width, 52 cm in depth, and 85 cm in height (approximately 20.7 x 20.5 x 33.5 inches), with a seat height of 44 cm (approximately 17.3 inches).
