Stig Lindberg bowl
This footed ceramic bowl was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced by Gustavsberg in Sweden in 1963. It is a notable example of Lindberg’s work during his later period at Gustavsberg, reflecting his refined sense of form, surface, and glaze treatment. The bowl bears both Lindberg’s incised signature and the Gustavsberg studio mark on the underside.
The piece features a softly curved bowl resting on a rounded foot, creating a harmonious, balanced profile. The exterior is glazed in a subtly mottled green and black, while the interior reveals a striking turquoise blue glaze with a repeating rhythmic incised texture, giving depth and optical vibrancy to the surface. The thick glaze application and vivid coloration are typical of Lindberg’s experimentation with expressive ceramic finishes in the early 1960s.
The bowl remains in good vintage condition, showing signs of age-appropriate wear and patina. An internal glaze defect is visible—likely formed during the original firing—which adds to the uniqueness of this handcrafted object without detracting from its sculptural quality or utility.
