Stig Lindberg vase
This ceramic vase, model Pungo, was designed by Stig Lindberg and produced by Gustavsberg in Sweden. Stig Lindberg was one of Sweden’s most versatile and influential designers of the 20th century, active across ceramic art, industrial design, and illustration. His long collaboration with Gustavsberg, a historic Swedish porcelain manufacturer, spanned from the 1940s through the 1980s and included a wide array of both functional ware and sculptural objects.
The Pungo vase is a sculptural form with a distinctly biomorphic character. Its shape is defined by an elongated, teardrop-like silhouette that rises into a narrow cylindrical neck and is dramatically cut on one side to expose a smooth, concave interior. This asymmetric gesture introduces both dynamic contrast and spatial depth, making the vase as much a sculptural object as a functional vessel.
The surface is matte white with a fine, velvety texture, typical of unglazed stoneware. The ceramic body is smooth and continuous, emphasizing the organic curvature of the form. The purity of the white ceramic enhances the emphasis on shadow, profile, and negative space.
The piece bears the Gustavsberg Sweden mark impressed at the base, and it remains in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear consistent with age and handling, including slight surface patina and small production-related irregularities.
The dimensions are 10 cm wide, 9.5 cm deep, and 19 cm high, which corresponds to approximately 3.9 inches by 3.7 inches by 7.5 inches.
